Breakfast brief
Severe threat spreads eastward

Breakfast brief for May 10th

After a busy week full of storms affecting millions of Americans, the week ends with much quieter weather. This trend will continue heading into the Mother's Day weekend.

Oklahoma tornado outbreak

May is tornado season in Oklahoma and on May 10, 2010, an outbreak hit the Sooner State. One of the tornadoes, an EF4, struck Norman, Okla., home to the U.S. Storm Prediction Center and the National Severe Storms Laboratory.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar is looking significantly less active today compared to earlier this week. Only a few spot troubles are present.

The severe storms that have been rolling across the central and southern U.S. will be limited to to the Southeast Friday. A few of the storms that will roll across southern Georgia and northern Florida could produce damaging winds and large hail. Tallahassee and Jacksonville, Fla., will need to keep an eye on the sky all day.

A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. This will keep things a bit cool once again, with chilly 50s and 60s possible.

A lingering upper-level system over the north-central Rockies and Mountain West that we've talked about all week will finally dissipate Friday. However. it will still produce a few burst of mountain snow across the central Rockies at the highest elevations.

A look at Friday, May 10th National Outlook

Sunshine will be the rage across the West Coast and throughout the central U.S. The West Coast will continue its upward temperature trend with highs in the 80s and low 90s in inland locations. The Plains will be more seasonable with 70s and low 80s.

Here is what we are watching:

  • Northern Florida severe threat
  • Quieter weather ahead
  • A week of dangerous weather
