Breakfast Brief - Severe weather & flooding; round three

We're keeping an eye on another round of severe storms driven by a dryline in the central and southern Plains today. Not to be outdone, isolated to scattered flooding threats are included. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The central U.S. holds most of the weather action on Thursday as seen on the WeatherRadar. This includes severe storms, heavy rain and even mountain snow across the northern Rockies. There is an isolated severe weather threat from Denver to Oklahoma City and down to southwestern Texas as a dryline - a line of separation between a moist and dry air mass - initiates storms that could produce damaging gusts, large hail and even an isolated tornado.

Additionally, flooding could be an issue again across the central U.S. as rain hits many of these spots over and over again after morning showers and storms, specifically in southeastern Nebraska to northeastern Texas. An isolated flooding risk exists into the Upper Midwest and down through the Southeast as well due to heavy showers and storms.

Having your app alerts switched on will be important in addition to having at least three ways of receiving a weather warning. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue through after dark so make sure your notification volume is turned up on your devices.

A few pockets of below-average temperatures will be felt, especially in the northern High Plains where highs will be as much as 16 degrees below average for late April. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 40s with mountain highs in the low 30s, which explains the snow showing up on the WeatherRadar.
