Breakfast Brief: Slow warm up, another clipper

Breakfast brief
Slow warm up, another clipper

While temperatures are gradually warming in the eastern half, they will remain below average for millions. A clipper will bring more snow to the northern tier, and fire weather will continue for one more day in Southern California. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The warm-up continues for the South, with the WeatherRadar showing highs in the 40s and 50s today. While snow will continue to melt, overnight temperatures will be below freezing, meaning re-freezing is possible tonight. Continue to watch for slick roads into the weekend.

Another clipper system will bring snow to the northern Plains and upper Midwest today, with snow kicking in for the Great Lakes and northern and central Appalachians this evening. Snow showers will also spread across parts of the northern Rockies this afternoon and evening.

There is some good news for Southern California as fire weather starts to ease as we head into the weekend. A westerly shift in the winds will bring more moisture to the region, and chances of rain tomorrow will further help ease fire concerns. That being said, conditions will remain at least somewhat dangerous today, so stay alert.

News we're covering today:

  • Fires rage in Southern California
  • Another clipper brings snow to the northern tier
  • Historic snow continues to melt
  • Fog thanks to the temperature difference in Florida
