Southern California
Fire weather relief on the way

After days of dry Santa Anas fueling wildfires in southern California, weekend rainfall is on the way to help firefighters and first responders battle the current blazes.

Wildfire smoke could be seen clearly on the WeatherRadar Wednesday as the Hughes Fire broke out. As of Thursday afternoon, the blaze is only 14 percent contained after burning through more than 10,000 acres. The fire ignited Wednesday morning on January 2, 2025.

More than 16K are under evacuation warnings and orders, however, the conditions are set to get better.

The WeatherRadar shows wet weather moving in Saturday afternoon and lasting through the weekend. A shift in winds as well as rain and mountain snow are moving in to help dampen fire weather conditions.

While a flooding event is not anticipated, areas that usually see puddling and flash flooding in downpours could slow down traffic. Keep a close eye on the WeatherRadar if you plan to be out and have your alerts switched on.
