Breakfast Brief
Soggy Tuesday for South, East

A big late-spring storm system will bring a soggy start to the post-Memorial Day shortened work week across the East and South. The West will feel summery. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The same system that \brought a stormy mess to the Deep South and lower Mississippi Valley on Monday will move across the South, Southeast and into the Mid-Atlantic today. This large system is tapping moisture from the Gulf and Atlantic Ocean. Several inches of rain, along with embedded thunderstorms are possible.

Make sure to check the WeatherRadar and have alerts turned on, as the downpours could produce localized flash flooding while a few of the stronger storms could produce bursts of damaging winds across the Southeast and South. The rain will suppress temperatures, with highs only in the 60s and low 70s across the Carolinas and Tennessee Valley.

The WeatherRadar also shows showers possible across the Upper Midwest, but an all-day washout isn't expected.

The Northeast, Great Lakes, and the West U.S. from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast will have a quiet Tuesday. It will be unseasonably hot through the West, with 80s temperatures across the Mountain West and the interior West Coast. Cooler temperatures will be found along the immediate West Coast, while the Southwest hits the triple digits.

The TemperatureRadar is a great tool for observing today's highs and lows in your area and across the U.S.
