Breakfast brief
Storms fire up over the southern Plains

A cold front will be the focus for storms across portions of the southern and central Plains today. More widespread activity is expected to close out the week.

Coldest April temperature on record

The temperature at Eagles Nest, NM, plunged to 45 degrees below zero to establish an April record for the United States.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar shows a few thunderstorms developing across parts of west Texas and Oklahoma today. The strongest storms could produce damaging winds and hail in cities like Midland and Lubbock, Texas, as well as Oklahoma City.

This won't be the only round of severe weather for the Plains this week. A classic springtime severe weather setup is taking shape for the end of this week and into the weekend, and Weather & Radar's expert meteorologists will have you covered.

Soggy conditions are also expected in the Northeast, with a slim line of showers developing across the South along a front. Rain and mountain snow will also slide into the Pacific Northwest today, kicking off a more active pattern for the West Coast through the remainder of the week.
