Breakfast Brief
Strong storms in the Plains

Strong storms will race across the Plains this afternoon and evening, while low pressure keeps things soggy in the Northeast. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The WeatherRadar shows strong storms firing up across the southern and central Plains today. Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Cities at risk today include McCook, Neb., Wichita, Kan., and Tulsa, Okla.

Rumbles of thunder are also possible in west Texas, with an isolated severe threat in cities like Midland and Lubbock. Some strong storms may also develop in southeast Florida from Melbourne to Miami. Damaging winds and hail are the main threats.

Low pressure keeps things cool and soggy from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic today. Highs will only reach the 50s and 60s in cities like Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

The TemperatureRadar shows highs well in the 90s and even a few areas reaching the triple digits across the Southwest and into Texas. Record highs are possible today in San Antonio and Houston.
