Catastrophe in Oklahoma
Multiple dead, entire town flattened

The third consecutive day of severe weather came with a vengeance. Several towns across Oklahoma are waking up to total devastation on Sunday morning after a tornado outbreak. At least four people have been reported dead and more than a hundred injuries.

In total 38 preliminary reports were extended from northwestern Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. The majority of the reports are over Oklahoma. Damages vary from trees down to towns completely leveled by violent tornadoes. One fatality was reported near Spaulding, Oklahoma after a large debris signature was spotted on radar sweeping through the town. The tornado report list will likely continue to grow as more damage is discovered throughout the day.

Classifications of tornadoes will not be known until the local National Weather Services offices go survey the damages, but in Sulphur damages are at least EF3.

Oklahoma was one of the worst-hit states with at least 17 tornadoes touching down, resulting in significant casualties and injuries. The Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed three storm-related fatalities—two in Holdenville and one on Interstate 35 near Marietta.

Additionally, Governor Stitt announced a fourth fatality in Sulphur. The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported that area hospitals have treated 100 injuries, including 25 from cuts or piercings, 30 from falls, 16 from being struck by or against objects, and 17 related to transportation.

The local National Weather Service offices across the Plains issued 250 tornado reports and nearly 500 severe thunderstorm warnings. These reports came from a complex and very slow-moving system that came out of the Rockies clashing with a moist and warm air mass moving in from the Gulf of Mexico. All the ingredients were there for the devasting weather to take place.

"It just wiped out a lot of history! Sulphur has been here since before statehood...it's has a lot of history", said a Sulphur resident to our weather reporter Jonathan Petramala.

The forecast

Sunday marks the 4th day with the maps lit up with colors warning what could come. Nearly 2 million people are under an enhanced risk of severe storms, including Tyler, Texas, Shreveport, La., and Texarkana, Texas. This is the region where storms could be more organized and numerous tornadoes may develop. Large hail and damaging wind gusts of at least 75 mph are possible.

A slight risk covers over 11 million people, including Houston, and its large suburbs, through Waco, Texas, and Springfield, Mo. Scattered storms are possible in the yellow highlighter area, with the chance of a tornado or two, strong winds and large hail are not ruled out.

On Monday the front will drape down the Gulf Coast and stay meandering increasing the risk of downpours and some strong storms that could lead to flooding from South Texas through the western portion of Florida's Panhandle.
