Stormy weekend ahead

A stormy extended holiday weekend is kicking off from the southern Plains northeastward into the Ohio Valley. Frequent big storms bring the risk of flooding, too.

A developing spring storm moving across the central U.S. will stall, and a stationary front will drape across the southern Plains, central Mississippi, and Ohio valleys this weekend. Tapping abundant Gulf moisture, frequent storms will develop along the front.

Rainfall forecast

These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds and hail each afternoon through Easter from northern Texas into the Midwest. A few tornadoes will be possible.

Frequent storms moving across the same areas at the same time will increase the flood risk. More than 5 inches of rain will be possible from northern Texas into the Midwest, bringing a flood risk to the Ozarks, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, St. Louis and Indianapolis.
