    Daily briefing: Stormy southern Plains

10:00 AM
November 21, 2025

Daily briefing
Record heat in the Southeast

Numerous record highs may be broken in the Southeast today. Another Pacific system will bring rain and mountain snow to California, while showers and storms stretch from the central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

A low moving in from the Pacific will bring more rain and mountain snow to southern and central California. Rain will also spread into parts of Arizona and Nevada. Another system will also bring thunderstorms to the Southeast, as well as rain from the central Plains and to the Mid-Atlantic.

The WeatherRadar shows two systems impacting the country today.

Flash flooding is possible from southeastern California into western New Mexico. Downpours may also bring isolated flash flooding to the Ohio River Valley. Snow showers will also spread across the Colorado Rockies.

While the Southwest stays below average in the 50s and 60s, the rest of the country will see above-average temperatures. Record highs will be possible across the Southeast. Cities like New Orleans, Atlanta, Columbia, S.C., and Jacksonville, Fla., may see new record highs today.

Tropical Update

Tropical activity is not expected over the next several days. We continue to monitor the tropics as the Atlantic Hurricane Season lasts until November 30.
