Exercising in colder weather is healthy

As the brand New Year begins so does our desire to get in shape. Yet, although the colder outside conditions are not appealing, exercising in cooler weather is actually good for us!

Going outdoors helps strengthen our cardiovascular system, builds muscles and reduces our stress levels. The body also uses more energy when it is cold and inhaling cold air can reduce the risk of infections.

When exercising in cooler temperatures, remember to breath through your nose to not irritate your airways with the chilly air. The fresh air then arrives in the bronchi warmed and purified. See your local temperatures on the TemperatureRadar.

Finally, wear the correct equipment, particularly on the upper body which is more sensitive to the cold. If exercising in the dark, consider wearing reflective clothing so others can see you.
