Front sits on Southeast
Downpours, storms from TX thru Carolinas

Isolated severe storms are possible on Thursday afternoon. Damaging winds are the main risk across parts of the Gulf Coast.

The soggy pattern continues across the Southeastern United States, including the state of Florida and Texas. Thursday and Friday are expected to be busy days, with showers and thunderstorms mainly affecting much of the Gulf Coast during the afternoon.

A frontal boundary will continue to lose its speed and stay stationary through much of the weekend and into next week. This is what's going to enhance the chance for shower and thunderstorm activity, some of which could turn severe.

Thursday’s storms

As a frontal boundary continues to push slowly to the South. There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms from central Texas through the Gulf Coast, and for parts of the Southeast. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible with damaging wind gusts being the main threat. Thunderstorms will start early afternoon and will continue through the early evening. Make sure you stay indoors when thunderstorms are around.

Friday’s storms

The highest chance for heavier downpours will be focused from southern Louisiana through much of Alabama. Although, the rain and isolated thunderstorms will still be possible stretching from central Texas through the Florida Panhandle, too.

How much rain?

From Thursday through Sunday, a swath of high rainfall will cover Midland, Texas through the southern portion of North Carolina. Generally, between 1 to 1.5 inches of rain will drop, with areas across eastern Texas, Louisiana and coastal Georgia getting over 2 inches of rain.
