The Federal Aviation Administration estimates Thursday, May 23, to be the busiest air travel day since 2019, ahead of Memorial Day weekend. Read on to see how your weather is shaping up for the holidays.

With warmer weather and longer days, it's no surprise that the extended Memorial Day weekend sparks one of the busiest travel days in the country, especially next Thursday as people leave work early to spend more time with loved ones. With so much movement, it's always wise to keep an eye on the forecast.

Taking a broad look at the weather leading up to Memorial Day weekend, there are significant regional differences. The Southeast, which has been very wet recently, will finally feel drier, with temperatures steadily climbing through the early part of the week.

Similarly, in the Northeast, rain and thunderstorms will increase by the end of the week as a cold front moves in from the west. Temperatures will rise above average but will cool down with pleasant conditions by the weekend.

The Midwest will experience wet, cool weather until Memorial Day weekend when it will start to clear and warm up. Meanwhile, the Southwest will see much drier and warmer conditions, with potential heat advisories for dangerous heat levels, especially in desert areas.

The central U.S., particularly the Central Plains and Midwest, will face the biggest weather concerns with severe storms and heavy rain. A storm system from the Central Rockies will increase shower and thunderstorm chances at the start of the week and again over the weekend.
