More spring snow on the way

Flakes flew in Caribou, Maine, over the weekend, and more spring snow is possible for the Great Lakes and Northeast this week.

While you may not think of snow in spring, it's not unusual across the country's northern tier, where the last snow of the season typically happens in April. It was a wintry weekend across the Northeast, and the WeatherRadar shows more snow on the way.

Today into Tuesday, moderate to heavy snow will fall across northeast Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and northern lower Michigan. Snow totals in the range of 2 to 5 inches are expected. The highest totals are possible Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where 6 inches are possible locally.

Snow totals through Wednesday.

Gusty winds will also impact visibility, making travel difficult. The WindRadar shows gusts up to 50 mph in parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the WeatherRadar shows lake effect snow impacting parts of western and northern New York. While cities like Buffalo, N.Y. and Erie, Pa., will pick up an inch or less of snow, higher totals are possible in cities like Springfield, N.Y., where up to 5 inches is expected.

Snow will move into northern Maine by Wednesday, bringing 1-3 inches to cities like Caribou.
