    Much-needed rain for Florida

Drought buster?
Much-needed rain for Florida

With 79.5 percent of Florida under extreme drought, rain is needed! The next three days will bring rounds of heavy rain to the Sunshine State.

The WeatherRadar shows good news for the drought-stricken state of Florida, as three days of heavy rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast. The eastern half of the state will see the most action, with up to 5 inches of rain possible through Wednesday. While this is unlikely to bust the drought, it will help.

However, there are downsides to heavy rain, including flash flooding. High rainfall rates could lead to urban flash flooding this week in Florida cities such as Orlando, Melbourne, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

The WindRadar shows gusts up to 40 mph this week.
The WindRadar shows gusts up to 40 mph this week.

Winds will also pick up, gusting upwards to 30-40 mph along the East Coast. This will increase the risk of rip currents. For those heading to the beach, make sure to check the marine forecast before getting into the water.
