Multi-day flood threat for the South

A multi-day flood threat will impact the South as multiple winter storms sweep across the country this week. A few severe storms may also be in play.

The WeatherRadar shows two powerful systems working their way across the country through Thursday. While snow and ice stay north, heavy rain and storms will swamp the South.

Rounds of heavy rain will bring the threat of flooding from Texas to western North Carolina on Tuesday. Cities such as Houston and Austin, Texas, Shreveport, La., and Jackson, Miss., could see flash flooding today. Tomorrow, the threat shifts east and includes cities such as Birmingham, Ala., Atlanta and Knoxville, Tenn.

Rain totals through Thursday.

Rain totals through Thursday across the South will amount to up to 3 to 5 inches, with some spots seeing locally higher totals.

Severe storms are also possible Tuesday and Wednesday, with the most significant threat moving in Thursday afternoon and evening. Severe storms may erupt from New Orleans to Atlanta. Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible.
