No more Sunshine State - Waterspouts possible across Florida

No more Sunshine State
Waterspouts possible across Florida

The Sunshine State is dealing with a lot less sunshine and many more storms all courtesy of a stationary front dropping through the state. Storms are also developing rotation!

Although the front is stagnant over northern Florida, it is influencing the weather pattern all across Florida. This morning numerous storms affected the west coast of Florida from Sarasota to the Tampa Bay area. Many of the storms are not in any rush either, often sitting in the same place for hours. This is leading to some flooding issues.

A waterspout formed over Lake Jessup in Central Florida

Waterspouts are also forming. On Wednesday, a waterspout was caught on camera in Lake Jessup in Central Florida. On Thursday morning, there were reports of waterspouts seen off the Tampa coast. This is typical of a moisture-rich environment like the one present. Remember, waterspouts are twisters that form and remain over bodies of water. If they move on land, then they are considered tornadoes.

Continue to monitor the weather closely. Storms are developing across Central Florida, and some are moving eastward. Across South Florida, there are some storms, too, that will become more numerous as the day heats up. If you manage to capture one of these waterspouts or any type of meteorological phenomenon on camera, safely, please share it with us!
