Yesterday, we talked about how no hurricanes have formed in the Atlantic hurricane basin, setting new records. A different kind of record could be broken in Hawaii if Tropical Depression 15-E becomes Nolo and impacts the Big Island later this week.

Nolo could be a major hurricane Friday and Saturday, and current forecasts call for it to pass just south of the Big Island of Hawaii. The WeatherRadar shows heavy rain arriving later today and continuing through the weekend, likely causing mudslides and flooding.

This hurricane season has been an unusually busy one for Hawaii. There have already been three tropical systems to impact the main Hawaiian Islands this season. Nolo could set the new modern record for the number of tropical systems to impact Hawaii in one season.
