IPCC climate report
Now or never for future of our planet

The United Nations' third climate report has laid out plans for the world to tackle climate change in stark detail.

There is a lot of doom to be found in the IPCC’s latest report, with news that not only is the targeted limit of 1.5C warming set to be missed but the planet is expected to see a temperature rise of 3.2C by 2100.

Which places even greater importance on plans proposed to limit the worst of this rise, plans that require significant changes to the way we live, eat, consume, and travel.

What is clear is that global carbon emissions must peak by 2025 before reaching net zero by 2050 for any chance of success.

It is suggested that we achieve this by moving away from widespread fossil fuel use, encouraging a move towards more plant-based foods, expanding forests, and greater adoption of carbon dioxide removal technology.

An additional bonus is also being placed on us, consumers. With one point of the report suggests a drop in consumer demand is necessary.

While fossil fuels must be phased out, work to reduce methane levels by a third must also be prioritized, the IPCC group says.

As well as reducing these fuels, industry leaders should also rapidly pursue alternative fuels such as hydrogen and greater use of renewables.

IPCC REPORT: Dire warning about result of inaction

This is the third section of the IPCC’s latest climate report covering methods of reducing carbon emissions and follows two previous sections which focused on how the planet is warming and the impact.

Why is the IPCC important?

Temperatures have already risen by 1.1C (1.98F) since pre-industrial era averages, with many research studies showing a clear link between this temperature and growth in extreme weather events.
