Rain, snow, rough surf
Pacific storm to soak West Coast

A large storm system is pushing into the West Coast Tuesday, bringing rain and mountain snow along with it. More rain and snow are expected by the end of the week.

The WeatherRadar shows a Pacific storm system impacting the West Coast today, bringing rain to the lower elevations and snow to the mountains. This system will move into the Great Basin on Wednesday.

WindRadar

Moderate rain will fall along coastal Washington, Oregon, and California, with up to an inch or more expected in northern California, including in the San Francisco Bay area. Lower rain totals are expected further south. The Los Angeles metro will likely see around three-quarters of an inch of rain, with San Diego picking up a quarter of an inch through Wednesday. Gusty winds may also accompany this system, so keep an eye on the WindRadar.

Rough surf and dangerous currents will also be concerns along the West Coast. Coastal flooding is possible, and it's important to monitor conditions carefully this week.

Snow is also in the forecast with flurries flying in the Casades, Kalmath Mountains, and Sierra Nevada. Rain and snow are also expected to spread into the interior Northwest, Great Basin, and the central and southern Rockies. Snow totals will vary, but heavy snow may be a boon for some ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Kalmath Mountains, while parts of the Sierras, San Bernardino, and Riverside mountains are under winter weather advisories. The highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains are expected to see 6 to 18 inches of snow, while the rest of the mountains will pick up 2 to 6 inches.

Another system is expected to slide in from the Pacific into the weekend. Weather & Radar's expert meteorologists will keep you up-to-date on the latest.
