Plains, Rockies trouble
Windy, stormy midweek

Severe storm across Rockies

A stormy and windy Wednesday afternoon and evening is ahead across the High Plains and northern Rockies today.

The WeatherRadar shows heavy rain moving across the Pacific Northwest. The cold front producing the rain will slide eastward, rolling into the northern Rockies this afternoon and evening. The front will clash with a warm, spring airmass and produce scattered strong to severe thunderstorms.

Salt Lake City, Pocatello, Idaho, Jackson, Wyo., and Great Falls, Mont., could all see storms capable of producing damaging winds from this system today.

In addition to the northern Rockies storm threat, the cold front interacting with high pressure over the central Plains will act like a vice, causing a gusty day across the high Plains and Front Range. The WindRadar shows gusts in excess of 35 mph. The dry conditions along with the high winds increase the threat for wildfires.
