When relief moves in
Record-setting heat still locked in

A record-setting heat wave will remain in place for the Great Lakes and Northeast. While some will see relief this weekend, the heat will continue for others.

A large heat dome has led to record-breaking highs and very warm lows this week, and this pattern isn't finished yet. You will want to keep a close on the TemperatureRadar in the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Northeast today as once again near-record or record-high temperatures are in the forecast.

Record-breaking heat was especially present in New England on Wednesday. Boston set a new record high of 98 degrees, beating the old record of 96 set in 1923, and Hartford, Conn., hit 97 degrees, breaking the previous record of 95 set in 1995. Caribou, Maine, tied its all-time record high for any day of the year by hitting 96 degrees, while Burlington, Vt., tied its all-time warmest low temperature of 80 degrees.

Friday highs

The heat will continue today and tomorrow, with well-above-average temperatures in the Great Lakes region and Northeast. A few cities that could set new record highs and record warm lows into the weekend include Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C.

The good news is that there will be some relief for parts of New England and upstate New York tomorrow into the weekend. While it will still be hot, it won't be record-breaking heat. Keep an eye on the TemperatureRadar for these changes.
