Severe threat moves east

Breakfast brief
Severe threat moves east

Our storm system from the weekend will move east today, bringing the threat of more severe weather from the Gulf to the Mid-Atlantic. The Pacific Northwest will see its fair share of rain and snow as another system pushes in. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The WeatherRadar shows action on both coasts today, with one system moving in off the Pacific and another impacting the East Coast.

Active weather on both coasts today.

Warm air and plentiful moisture will help spark storm storms today from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast, with the most significant threat extending from Mobile, Al., to Richmond, Va. All modes of severe weather are possible, but damaging winds and hail are the main threats. Make sure your Weather & Radar app alerts are turned on.

Heavy rain and mountain snow will lash the West Coast. Wet snow will fall in the high elevations of the Cascades and Sierra Nevada. Mixed rain and snow will also push across Idaho and into the northern Rockies.

Above-average temperatures will linger in the east, with cities like New York and Philadelphia running 15-20 degrees above average. Cooler-than-average conditions will be in place along the West Coast and the northern and central Plains.
