Breakfast Brief
Soggy East Coast, heat builds for West Coast

While rain and storms linger across the East Coast, clear skies and warmer-than-average temperatures dominate the western half of the U.S. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

Drier conditions have moved into the southern and central Plains, but the East Coast remains stormy as our front pushes east. The West Coast will be warm and sunny to end the work week.

The WeatherRadar shows storms continuing across the East Coast, with tranquil weather across the western half of the U.S.

The WeatherRadar shows rain and thunderstorms along the northern Gulf Coast, Florida and into the Northeast. Cities like Mobile, Ala., Jacksonville, Fla., Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C., and Raleigh, N.C., will be at risk of isolated strong storms with damaging wind and hail today.

Flash flooding is also possible today. Keep an eye on the RainRadar along the Gulf Coast and into the Northeast. After days of rain, any heavy downpours can quickly lead to localized flooding.

Above-average warmth continues across much of the West Coast and the Upper Midwest, with cities like Minneapolis seeing temperatures up to 20 degrees warmer than average. Triple-digit highs are forecast for parts of the Southwest, including Phoenix. Cooler-than-average temperatures stretch from Texas to the Northeast.
