Southeast Georgia - More rain could slow Debby recovery

Southeast Georgia
More rain could slow Debby recovery

Water levels remain high in Georgia and the Carolinas a week after Debby moved through the region. More rain could make recovery tricky in some communities.

The video above shows Highway 17, northbound in southeast Georgia, still covered in water. This road is still being impacted by rainfall brought in by Debby. Additional rainfall over the past week is slowing the drainage of this excess water.

A lingering front will continue to spark showers and thunderstorms across the Southeast, especially in the coastal Carolinas. The WeatherRadar shows these storms firing up this afternoon and evening. Cities such as Wilmington, Jacksonville and Fayetteville, N.C., are at risk for flash flooding today.

An additional 2-3 inches of rain is possible today in this region, which can slow down river and creek drainage. The front will also keep rain in the forecast over the next few days. Stay weather aware and keep an eye on the WeatherRadar this afternoon and evening.
