South and southern Plains
Sweltering heat continues

The southern tier of the country remains locked in a heat wave, with temperatures reaching the 90s and 100s.

Those who live in the south and southern Plains will want to monitor the TemperatureRadar today as heat continues to bake these regions. Temperatures will be 5 to 15 degrees above normal. With high humidity in place, this heat can be dangerous, with "feels-like" temperatures soaring into the triple digits.

Temperatures will reach the 90s and 100s across central and southern Plains, with heat index values climbing upwards of 115 in central Oklahoma where some of the most intense heat will be felt.

Another issue will be warm overnight lows, which make it hard to cool down. With temperatures only dipping into the upper 70s and low 80s overnight in cities like Dallas and Oklahoma City, there will be little relief after the sun goes down. Those who have no air conditioning or unreliable air conditioning will be at risk for heat-induced illness.

The only relief from the hot weather will come in the form of thunderstorms. Unfortunately, some of these storms may be strong, so please stay weather-aware. Also, remember to stay hydrated, wear loose clothing and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning to stay safe from the heat.
