Texas through Florida
Weekend rain chance increases, storms

Rain and storms will make a comeback for the Texas coast on Saturday. Then, the moisture will take over the South on Sunday, also increasing the chance for rain and storms.

A low-pressure system will develop over northern Mexico and ride onto the Gulf of Mexico and hug the Texas Coast on Saturday. Its proximity and placement will allow the moisture to increase from the Río Grande Valley through Houston and Galveston.

The storm should be near South Padre Island early Saturday morning. The winds will be mainly from the southeast, hitting the Texas coast directly, this also means that there will be plenty of moisture being pushed in. A few showers will be possible in the morning along the enter coast.

Some severe storms will be possible across southern Georgia and northern Florida on Sunday.

As the storm moves, hugging the coast, the shower intensity could increase, especially during the afternoon hours from Corpus Christi through Beaumont. Storms will be more likely in Louisiana during the late afternoon hours and into the evening. By midnight on Sunday, the system will be centered between Louisiana and Mississippi and most of its moisture should be affecting the Deep South extending over to the Southeast, including North Florida.

There is a risk for some severe storms on Sunday across the southern portion of Georgia and northern Florida. The main threat will be damaging winds and tornadoes, mainly in the afternoon hours. Make sure to plan accordingly and have at least 3 ways of receiving weather alerts if you are in this area.
