Through early Saturday
Southern snow, ice storm persists

Heavy snow and ice have kept millions home this Friday as a winter storm persists in the southern U.S. Memphis, Nashville, Birmingham and Atlanta have all been impacted. The big Carolina metros are next.

Little Rock, Ark., picked up 7 inches of snow - the most in 4 years. Walking is just about the only way many got around in Memphis, Tenn., today as roads are covered with slushy ice and snow. More than 100 flights were either canceled or delayed at the Nashville International Airport.

Wintry weather stretches from Michigan to northern Georgia as a storm treks eastward. Atlanta saw their first in of snow in 6 years, but orange hues quickly replaced the pink on the WeatherRadar as snow turned to frozen precipitation, grounding flights and keeping commuters home.

As of the afternoon commute time, snow is making it into the Raleigh, N.C., and Roanoke, Va., metro areas and it will continue toward the coast. The WeatherRadar shows snow falling from this storm through Saturday, where snow showers will make it as far north as New England.

Temperatures will climb above freezing in the Southeast where any snowy or icy weather will turn to rain. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar if you have Friday evening plans.
