Tornadic storm risk
Numerous severe storms for South

Sunday evening’s radar activity picks up as a low-pressure system with a cold front push through the Southeast increasing the chance for another round of severe storms that could bring large hail, destructive winds, and more tornadoes.

This is all part of the same weather setup that produced severe thunderstorms on Friday night into Saturday across the South. There hasn’t been much movement and more systems continue to arrive in the same area, increasing the instability.

Moderate risk means that there could be numerous severe storms, including a few strong tornadoes.

A tornado watch is in effect until at least 11 p.m. CT from extreme eastern Louisiana through the southern half of Mississippi, and much of Alabama, and a severe thunderstorm watch (until 1 a.m. ET) for central Georgia, which includes Atlanta.

Several severe storms have been developing after sunset across around I-20 entering Mississippi from the west. More stormy cells have entered Alabama across areas west of Montgomery but will continue to push eastward as the evening progresses. Montgomery, Prattville, and Selma, Alab., are all at risk of numerous tornadic storms that could develop within the next few hours into Monday morning.

Quite a light show tonight!

Our WeatherRadar shows how there will be clusters of storms moving from west to east-northeast developing thousands of lightning strikes through the evening hours.

With plenty of moisture moving into the Southeast, there will still be very active weather through the overnight hours into Monday morning. Columbus, Georgia, could have an active evening, with a few tornadoes and numerous severe storms crossing into the Peach State. There could be a few severe thunderstorms even reaching South Carolina through extreme southern North Carolina through Monday morning.

Make sure to stay weather aware and have at least 3 ways of receiving weather alerts. Tornadoes could be rain wrapped which will make them much harder to spot, besides it being already hard enough as it is nighttime.
