Tropical update
Barely a tropical wave in Caribbean

Two tropical waves in the Atlantic Basin. August 26

There are two tropical waves we are watching this Friday. One has entered the Caribbean. The second one is thousands of miles away near Cabo Verde Islands. Let’s see what is up with them.

The Caribbean tropical wave is barely a tropical wave. Most of its convection has dissipated due to dry air interacting with it and really put a dent in it. Nonetheless, we will continue to watch it, as it will have less dry air and much better conditions to thrive early next week, once it is over the central, almost the western, region of the Caribbean.

Track tropical waves in our interactive WeatherRadar.

Let’s remember that without a well-defined center of circulation it is impossible to say where a system could be heading to. Saying anything would be pure speculation.

Far, far away

The second tropical wave is much more robust. Luckily this one is just south of Cabo Verde Islands. The National Hurricane Center is giving it a 30 percent chance of development in five days. We have plenty of time to watch it.

Why do tropical waves emerge from Africa?

This is a good weekend to review your hurricane plans if you haven’t already done so. Check on your generator, tools, and documents. Make sure everything is in place. The atmosphere is starting to show more signs that will likely activate the tropics during September. Be prepared in case you are threatened by a storm.
