Ongoing severe weather outbreak

Today's live blog covers the severe weather threat stretching from the Ohio Valley into the South.

Power outages continue to grow as strong storms bring damaging winds across the eastern-third of the U.S. In West Virginia, nearly 140,000 customers are without power, with outages also growing in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. With more storms on the way, now is a good time to make sure your devices are fully charged.

Storms left a trail of damage in southern Indiana on Monday night. The severe weather threat continues this afternoon and evening stretching from the Ohio Valley to the Gulf Coast.

The Storm Prediction Center has now highlighted cities like Atlanta and Birmingham, Ala., under an enhanced risk, a level 3 out of 5 for severe storms. Now is the time to turn on your Weather & Radar app alerts.

A tornado watch is now in effect for parts of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky through 3 p.m. CT.

10:20 a.m. EDT

Numerous severe storms impacted areas stretching from the southern Plains into the Ohio Valley yesterday. There were 129 reports of severe weather stretching from Texas to Ohio, with three tornadoes reported in Oklahoma.

Strong storms are currently firing up in western Tennessee. Keep an eye on these storms with the WeatherRadar.

The threat of severe storms continues today as a powerful spring storm system brings the threat of damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes (some strong). A moderate risk, a level 4 out of 5, extends across northern Kentucky into central Ohio. Severe storms capable of producing long-duration tornadoes are likely, along with large hail and damaging winds.
