Have the weather in mind
Use fireworks safely this summer

Many of us will encounter or use fireworks this summer, especially as Independence Day approaches. It's important to have the weather in mind.

While they are beautiful, fireworks are very dangerous. Here are some fireworks safety tips where the weather should be taken into account.

Rain & thunderstorms

If it is raining, you may have a difficult time lighting the fireworks and viewers may want to stay indoors. Rain also makes the ground wet and those setting off the fireworks could easily slip and fall. Check the RainRadar before you begin your celebration.

When thunder roars, go indoors. And although it could be hard at times to distinguish between thunder and a booming firework, you can keep an eye on the WeatherRadar lightning icons to know when to move indoors.

Gusty winds

Wind plays a big factor in both lighting and keeping the fireworks at a safe distance from buildings and viewers. Additionally, the wind could also send sparks into or near dry brush, creating a wildfire hazard.

Keep a close eye on the WindRadar to make the safe decision for your holiday light show. A good rule of thumb is if it's too windy, postpone or cancel your fireworks display. There is always next year!

Check the forecast for the time you plan to set off the light show - we have an hourly forecast just for you!
