Weekend Autumn preview
Refreshing air spreads to East

It isn’t pumpkin spice season just yet, but a few autumn-like nights will give the air-conditioner a break.

Friday morning’s TemperatureRadar shows low temperatures dropping into the 50s as far south as Kansas City. A few spots in the Dakotas got into the 40s overnight.

This dramatic change in temperatures is due to a cold front moving eastward. It will help speed up Debby’s remnants and push it off the East Coast on Saturday.

The dry air mass behind the cold front will provide two big benefits.

Afternoon temperatures across the Plains will only be in the 60s and 70s today. Saturday and Sunday’s highs throughout the central and northern Plains, Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and the Northeast will be in the upper 70s and low 80s. Low humidity will make it perfect weather to be outside.

Secondly, the dry air and clear sky will help drop overnight temperatures into the 50s and low 60s. Several record lows are possible in the central Mississippi Valley Saturday morning. Save some money and let the fresh air inside by turning off the air conditioner and opening the window.

The South and Texas won’t be so lucky, however. The refreshing air won’t make it that far south and afternoon temperatures in the 90s, with many interior spots of Texas hitting 100 degrees.

Super Typhoon Bavi threatens Taiwan. 155 mph winds. . Weather Videos. Wednesday, July 8, 2026
The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
