What are supercell storms?

After weeks of intense thunderstorms hitting the U.S., with large hailstones, torrential rains, snowfall, lightning, and tornadoes all appearing, you might have heard the term supercell often. But what exactly is a supercell?

Supercell storms are the strongest, most powerful form of a storm that exists on Earth. Fortunately, supercells don't form everywhere in the world. Places like the United Kingdom and Ireland very rarely get such storms.
