Widespread flooding, damaging winds too

The same storm system that brought blizzard conditions and overnight severe weather yesterday is making its way further east bringing more snow trouble with widespread flood issues and more severe storms in the forecast. This live blog will be updated throughout the day on Tuesday.

5:00 p.m.

Poor driving conditions are a significant issue on the wintry side of this storm system. Check conditions before heading out and make sure to keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.

4:45 p.m.

Power outages continue to increase in number due to the powerful winter storm tracking across the U.S. Below are the states with the most customers without power as of this update.

  • Florida- 84,104
  • South Carolina- 78,269
  • Pennsylvania- 63,868
  • New York- 49,930

3:45 p.m.

Flash flooding is occurring in many communities across the Southeast. Remember, turn around, don't drown, if you see water covering a roadway.

3:00 p.m.

Storms continue to move across the Southeast. Stay weather aware and make sure your Weather & Radar app alerts are turned on.

The threat of tornadoes continues into the evening hours in the Southeast.

The highest wind gust recorded so far on Tuesday is 106 mph in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Follow along as we continue to track this powerful storm system.

Power outages continue to grow across the Southeast due to the powerful storms and gusty winds. More than 100,000 customers are without power in Florida, and more than 66,000 are without power in Georgia. The WindRadar is currently showing wind gusts in excess of 60 mph.

12:00 p.m.

Weather & Radar meteorologist Becca Parker will be live on YouTube at 1 p.m. ET with the latest information on the severe weather and wintry weather threats.

11:00 a.m.

The severe weather is already trucking through the Gulf Coast and Florida Panhandle with a live tornado watch and many severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings. Have your alerts switched on!

Those across the Southeast can also expect another tornado watch to be issued soon.

10:00 a.m.

Parts of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia all reported tornado activity Monday night and Tuesday morning with parts of the Florida Panhandle, including Grand Lagoon, being hit hard. Today, there is an enhanced risk for more severe storms stretching from the Florida Panhandle to the Carolinas and more tornadoes are expected.

In the East, many schools are closed or are closing early due to the imminent flood threat and gusty winds. Make sure you have a least three ways of receiving weather warnings.

Meanwhile, many schools are closed due to the rough conditions left behind in the Plains as the blizzard hit Monday. Stranded vehicles are being checked out this morning.
