Winds change, increase for Florida

There will be risks

Some changes are coming to Florida this week. Rain has finally made a comeback this week, but it will not likely make a big difference in the worsening drought. The winds will bring relief from the heat, though.

The drought continues to worsen in some areas of Florida, with parts of Central and South Florida now experiencing an extreme drought, and most of the peninsula experiencing a severe drought. About 96 percent of the state is experiencing a drought.

The latest drought monitor shows much of Florida under a drought & worsening as no significant rain is in the forecast.

There is a cold front exiting the Southeast, and its tail end will brush the east coast of Florida. The winds will shift, and this shift will cause temperatures to be below average for this time of year between Wednesday and Friday in the eastern part of the Peninsula, from I-75 to the east. Temperatures in the afternoon will be in the low-80s. While the winds blow from east to west, passing over land, they will warm up, allowing the highs to be in the mid-to-upper 80s.

Rip current fatalities

There has been 8 rip current fatalities reported preliminarily this year through April 28 in the United States. Nationwide, rip currents cause 100 deaths on average yearly.

The WindRadar shows winds blowing strongly from the east and this will also prompt marine hazards. There will be rough seas and a high risk of rip currents at least through Thursday evening. Make sure to avoid the water, or if you must swim, swim near a lifeguard.
