Daily briefing
More lake effect snow, southern chill

More lake-effect snow will impact the eastern Great Lakes today, while frigid air continues to work its way south. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The WeatherRadar shows active snow bands over the Great Lakes as more lake-effect snow develops. The highest accumulations are expected downwind of Lakes Ontario and Erie, where 2-8 inches or more is possible.

Travel may be challenging at times in cities like Cleveland, Erie, Pa., and Rochester, N.Y., as heavy lake-effect snow bands form. Wind gusts of 30+ mph will greatly reduce visibility at times. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar and the WindRadar.

Temperatures are divided once again today, with the TemperatureRadar showing above-average temperatures for the western half of the U.S. and much colder-than-average temperatures for the eastern half.

In addition to record lows, record-low high temperatures are possible today as frigid air dips deep into the South. Dozens of cities, including Charleston, S.C., as well as Miami and Jacksonville, Fla., could see record low maximum temperatures this afternoon.

The western half of the country, on the other hand, remains above average. Highs will warm into the 80s in cities like Los Angeles and Phoenix, with temperatures nearing 70 in Denver.

Tropical Update

Tropical activity is not expected over the next several days. We continue to monitor the tropics as the Atlantic Hurricane Season lasts until November 30.
