Daily briefing
Midwest & NE snow, pattern shift for West

A clipper system will keep the snow machine going across the Midwest and Northeast today. While much of the rest of the U.S. is quiet, the West Coast will notice a pattern shift. The daily briefing is published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

A low-pressure trough dipping into the eastern half will trigger snow across the Midwest through the Northeast today. Gusty winds will accompany these, too.

Snowy TuesdayWeatherRadar: Snow is expected across the Midwest and Northeast.

Most of the rest of the U.S. is quiet except for the West Coast. A pattern shift will trigger rain and mountain snow from central California through the Pacific Northwest late in the afternoon through the overnight.

Highs will stay frigid in the eastern two-thirds. Teens and 20s spread from Bismarck to Oklahoma City and all the way to Washington D.C., and up to Maine. Some single-digit highs will be mixed in for Minneapolis, Green Bay and Milwaukee.

Helping to melt ice and snow, 30s and 40s will spread from Texas to Nashville and through the Southeast. The Mountain West and Pacific Northwest will also have these 30s and 40s, but the rest of the West Coast stays warmer in the 60s and 70s.

Florida residents will see temperatures drop 15 to 20 degrees thanks to the cold front that just pushed through with the recent winter storm. Highs will only be in the 50s and 60s, with northern Florida possibly staying under 50 degrees.
