Atlantic Hurricane Season - 59 days left of the season

Atlantic Hurricane Season
59 days left of the season

We're just one week removed from Helene's landfall and its life-changing impacts are still being felt by millions. The saying "it only takes one" rings true, but there is still plenty of season left.

We still have 59 days left until the Atlantic Hurricane Season comes to a close. That being said, Mother Nature can initiate a tropical system whenever she wants, but on average, we wrap up on November 30.

There are many tools you can have in mind now to protect yourself and your family before an area of interest pops up on the WeatherRadar. Aside from making sure your home insurance is up to date, your emergency supplies are stocked and fresh and you have copies of all your important documents ready to go, you can make sure your Hurricane Alerts are switched on in the app.

The thing is, with hurricanes, the category is very often the last thing that matters. Even tropical storms can leave behind deadly impacts. It's best to not let your guard down, even if the most recent hurricane has come and gone. The WindRadar is a great tool to see just how large the wind field is in a tropical system.

The size of a tropical system only expands its impacts. Hurricane Helene was very large, around the 90th percentile when it comes to hurricane sizes. Everyone across the entire Florida Peninsula felt some kind of tropical force, as seen on the WindRadar above, even if Helene made landfall dozens or even hundreds of miles away.

Super Typhoon Bavi threatens Taiwan. 155 mph winds. . Weather Videos. Wednesday, July 8, 2026
The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
