Today in 1875, the first weather map was displayed in a newspaper which included the pressure lines, wind direction, and the weather forecast.

Today's weather outlook

The storm prediction center has highlighted an area in the Plains and Midwest where severe storms are expected. Tornadoes and damaging winds are the main threats, but isolated flooding rains cannot be ruled out. Make sure you have at least three ways to receive a weather warning.

This storm system is large and will impact many with everything from snow, freezing rain, isolated flooding rains, and even more severe storms come Tuesday. The back end of the storm will have those from the southern and central Rockies and northern High Plains experiencing snow while the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic get the rainy side on Monday.

A large storm system will include everything but the kitchen sink of Monday, but especially severe storms across the Plains and Midwest.A large storm system will include everything but the kitchen sink of Monday, but especially severe storms across the Plains and Midwest.
