Breakfast brief
A frigid Tuesday

The frigid start to 2025 continues Tuesday, with a reinforcing shot of arctic air diving across the Midwest and the Great Lakes. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The TemperatureRadar shows Tuesday afternoon highs will be in the teens in the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and western Appalachians. This includes Minneapolis, Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

A few lake-effect snow showers will also form downwind of the Great Lakes, causing a bit of a mess across western New York. The WeatherRadar is showing snow from a Canadian clipper moving across the Northeast.

Across the southern Plains, South and the Southeast, it will be chilly. Highs in the 40s and low 50s will be found from Texas to Georgia, with slightly milder 60s across Florida and the Gulf Coast. This jacket weather is up to 10 degrees below normal for this time of the year.

The West will also be sunny and wintry. Highs will be in the 30s across the Mountain West, while the Northwest will be in the 40s. California will be in the 50s and low 60s with gusty winds continuing across the mountains surrounding Los Angeles, keeping the risk of rapidly expanding fire high.
