Breakfast Brief
Generational flooding event underway

Intense rainfall continues over the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys today after heavy showers and storms impacted the area through the overnight. A rare high risk for excessive rainfall has been issued today with more severe weather in the forecast. Rain and mountain snow also paint the map across the Rockies, Great Basin and the Four Corners. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

A spring storm continues to bring significant rainfall and severe storms this morning. The WeatherRadar shows an intense line across the Mississippi and Ohio valleys with heavy rain involved. We expect to see more rainfall today, especially from northeast Arkansas to western Kentucky where a rare high risk for excessive rainfall has been issued.

This rainfall will be potentially catastrophic and life-threatening for the region. Flood watches are in effect through the weekend and some spots could see between 10 and 15 inches of rainfall in a matter of a few days.

As far as the severe weather goes, the strongest storms are expected across the Ozarks through western Tennessee. However, we could see severe weather as far east as the Mid-Atlantic. Winter sticks around in the northern tier from the Dakotas to the Upper Great Lakes with temperatures in the cold 30s and 40s and snow, mostly through the morning hours. Check the WeatherRadar to know where it's hitting.

In the Northeast, as a warm front pushes northward, freezing rain and snow are expected early before finally moving out as temperatures warm by the mid-afternoon. Winter weather advisories are active here today.

Active weather dots the West, especially along the Rockies, Great Basin and the Four Corners. Mountain snow and rain are expected, keeping the WeatherRadar busy. Luckily, a break is in the near future for many! Take a peek here.
