Breakfast Brief
More flooding, severe storms to end April

Severe storms continue across the Plains and Mississippi Valley today while a large cold front continues east, bringing rain, mountain snow and thunderstorms stretching from California to the Upper Midwest. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

A new severe weather threat targets the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley today with isolated severe storms possible up into the lower Ohio Valley. The WeatherRadar shows heavy rain and storm activity happening just about all day across the central and southern Plains and into the Mississippi Valley, with more severe weather activity spreading into the Midwest and lower Ohio Valley by mid-afternoon.

The strongest storms will be focused on places like Arlington, Waco and Dallas, Texas, Norman, Okla., and up into northern Arkansas, including Little Rock. Everything is possible, including tornadoes, damaging gusts and large hail. Hail is even possible in the lower Ohio Valley. Have your alerts switched on in the app.

Similar to Tuesday's setup, flooding rains are back in the forecast for the central and southern Plains and into the Midwest, with a bullseye for the highest likelihood of flooding that includes places like the northern Dallas suburbs, Ada and Muskogee, Okla., as well as Fayetteville, Ark.

We could see up to 7 inches with locally higher amounts. Flooding will be caused by heavy downpours over areas that have recently received heavy rain. Remember, turn around, don't drown.

Finally, a frontal system that made its way into the western U.S. on Tuesday will continue moving in, bringing everything from mountain snow to rain and thunderstorms stretching from the Sierras to the Upper Midwest. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar as a few heavy downpours could disrupt commutes in Elko, Nev., Salt Lake City, Utah, and Casper, Wyo.
