Breakfast brief
Severe threat for the southern Plains

Snow squalls will continue across portions of the Great Lakes and Northeast. A severe threat is starting up across the southern Plains today. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

More snow and wind are on the way for the Great Lakes and Northeast. The WeatherRadar shows snow showers stretching from Grand Rapids, Mich., to Bangor, Maine. Snow squalls may make travel hazardous at times today, so give yourself extra time if you are driving.

Severe storms will enter the picture later today. As low-pressure moves into Texas, powerful storms will erupt late tonight into the overnight, continuing across east Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi tomorrow. Training thunderstorms are possible, so watch for flash flooding.

Damaging winds and hail are the main threats on both days. The tornado threat tomorrow will be isolated, with a more significant threat entering the picture on Thursday. With the threat of severe weather increasing, it's a good idea to make sure your Weather & Radar app alerts are turned on.
