Breakfast brief
Western storm heads east

A big western storm is moving more inland today, causing wintry trouble across more of the Mountain West. More arctic trouble is hitting the Plains and Midwest too. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m., Eastern time.

The Western storm that brought heavy rain and mountain snow to California Thursday is unraveling across the Pacific Coast, Intermountain West and Rockies today. The WeatherRadar shows pockets of heavy rain and mountain snow from California to the Rockies.

Friday's western threat

The central U.S. will have big changes. Southern flow, as seen in the WindRadar, will see the temperatures rise into the 60s across the western Plains. The TemperatureRadar shows the arctic air remaining locked up in the northern Plains and the Northeast, snow will also fall across the Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes later in the day. Highs will be only in teens and 20s.

A few showers and thunderstorms will develop across Gulf Coast later in the day as the South reach into the 50s and 60s. Florida will be in the 70s.
