Breakfast Brief
Gusty clipper system with Southeast rain

Heavy snow is heading into the northern tier and Midwest today. The West continues to experience an unseasonable warm-up while heavy rains slowly move out of the Southeast. The Breakfast Brief is posted Monday through Friday at 5 a.m. ET.

An Alberta Clipper is swinging into the northern tier. The WeatherRadar shows that snow has been falling all night with freezing rain mixed in throughout the Dakotas and now in the Upper Midwest. This clipper will continue to the southeast slowly as it moves into the Great Lakes and Midwest throughout the day.

This clipper is one to watch since it will continue causing issues even through Friday and Saturday. Have your alerts switched on to receive information about snow and ice.

Lingering shower and thunderstorm activity will keep umbrellas nearby for those along the Southeast and eastern Florida coasts. Activity will be spotty, so if you have outdoor Christmas parties planned, have an indoor back up option! The WeatherRadar can help.

Speaking of rain, the Pacific Northwest Coast will have rain and mountain snow activity, particularly in western Washington. A small frontal system will move ashore in the late afternoon bringing rain as far south as southwest Oregon.

Even if rainy, the Pacific Northwest won't be left out of the continuous western warm-up. The TemperatureRadar shows highs reaching anywhere between 5 and 12 degrees above average for this time of year across the West Coast, Great Basin and into the central and southern Rockies.

A building high-pressure ridge will keep many under an unseasonably warm, and even record-breaking air mass, even through the weekend for the West.
