East Coast flood risk
Over 10 million people at risk

The flood risk continues along some parts of I-95 from the Mid-Atlantic through the Northeast, where over 10 million residents could encounter heavy rains that could lead to flooding on Thursday.

A low-pressure system slowly bordering Virginia on Thursday morning and a cold front that drags over Central Florida will continue to enhance periods of heavy showers over the Mid-Atlantic states. There is also another cold front that will brush the Northeast and will interact with the low over the Mid-Atlantic, pulling the storm northward and dumping more moisture over the Northeast. Pamlico Sound through Virginia Beach have a slight chance of experiencing floods on Thursday as most of the heaviest rains will continue to fall over the area. Flood watches are in effect through Thursday evening. Up to 3 inches of additional rain is expected.

Lots of moisture will continue to invade much of the northern eastern Coast of the U.S. Lots of moisture will continue invading much of the U.S's northern eastern Coast.

Rhode Island, Connecticut, eastern Massachusetts, southeastern New Hampshire, and Maine continue to have flood watches in effect. It’s been a very wet morning for eastern New England and the rain is set to continue through the afternoon and evening. The ground is already extremely saturated, and another 2 inches of rain will be possible, which could renew or exacerbate flooding. Please stay away from flooded areas. Remember, turn around, don’t drown.

In Boston, we forecast the rain to slowly taper off on Friday morning and the clouds to gradually diminish during the afternoon. Easter weekend will be a nice one with slightly above-average highs and rain-free.

We are closely monitoring the rain and flood risk. Please check back throughout the day for any important updates as well as our social media platforms. Track the storms using our WeatherRadar.
