Daily briefing
Fronts stay north, plenty of Gulf moisture for South

The parade of fronts will be on the move tonight across the northern half of the United States, and the Gulf will continue to feed moisture to Texas and the Southeast. All of these details are provided daily in the Weather & Radar daily briefing published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

Texas Floods

Rains affected central Texas again on Monday, with some flash floods happening in the afternoon hours. The soil has been parched in recent months, which did not allow the heavy rains to drain properly —one of many factors contributing to the flash floods—and all the moisture from recent weeks will continue to keep the ground well-saturated. There will be another chance for scattered rain showers across the Hill Country today, and storms will remain focused along the Texas coast.

Moisture will continue to feed the atmosphere and create storms in Texas.

A bit further north, in Central Oklahoma, there is a chance for isolated severe storms on Tuesday afternoon as a low-pressure system and front move through. The main risk will be damaging winds gusts. While the center of the system will be traveling over the Central Plains, a stationary front will extend along and through the system. Some scattered severe storms may form along this boundary from eastern New Mexico through southern Illinois.

There will be plenty of moisture and heat, along with an upper-level trough that brings the chance for severe storms closer to the I-95 corridor from the Mid-Atlantic region through the Tristate area. The main risk from these isolated storms, which may develop in the afternoon into the evening, will be damaging winds that could form from the torrential rains.

Tropical Update

The tropics show no signs of tropical formation this week. Take a breather, and be sure to review your hurricane plans, including your insurance policies.
