Flood threat for Midwest & Appalachians

Creeks in Arkansas were swollen yesterday as a storm system brought significant rain to the region. Today, this same storm system will bring a flood threat to parts of the Midwest and Appalachians.

The storm system that brought a severe threat to the South and led to flood alerts across northern Arkansas on Thursday will bring the risk of more flooding today across portions of the Midwest and the Appalachians.

The WeatherRadar shows rain today across portions of the Midwest, Northeast, Appalachians, the Mid-Atlantic, and into the Southeast. While the rain benefits most, some areas may experience flash flooding.

Rain, in conjunction with snowmelt over the higher terrain of the central Appalachians, will bring the threat of flooding. A portion of this storm system will also bring heavy rain today to portions of northern Illinois. With a couple of inches of rain possible, cities like Chicago will want to keep an eye out for rising water.
