Late-summer heat wave
New record heat heads for Northwest

Although signs of autumn are everywhere, from kids back to school and pumpkin spice everything in stores, summer won’t give up its grips on the West Coast, especially the Northwest.

High pressure building across the Northwest will send temperatures skyward over the next several days across the West Coast. Triple-digit highs are likely across the Southwest and Interior California. This includes Sacramento and Palm Springs, Calif., and Las Vegas. Phoenix and Tucson will be even hotter, with 110-plus highs likely for the next several days.

The heat will build into the Northwest, with record-breaking temperatures on Thursday and Friday. Portland will likely hit 102 on Thursday and possibly Friday, breaking daily temperature records set in 1944. Seattle will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees, which could also approach a daily temperature record set in 1973.

The hot weather will stick around into the weekend, extending into the Rockies. More record highs in the 90s to near 100 degrees are likely. Just last week we were talking about a few spots in the Rockies receiving their first snow of the season.
